St. Helen School in Miami
April 9, 2020The St. Helen School at the Cathedral of St. Matrona of Moscow Cathedral in Miami, Florida is open to children on Sundays from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. Two sessions are held back to back for a duration of 40 minutes each and conclude before Holy Communion in order for the students to receive the Eucharist.
The educational curriculum consists of Orthodox Christian religion, Russian Language, Russian Literature, and the basics of Choir and Church Singing. Theater and music classes are also taught to children to prepare them for participation in church holidays.
The school currently has 60 students, separated into different age groups: preschool (3-4), elementary, (5-8) and middle (9-14). They are taught to adjust to church life, how to cooperate with each other and better understand others, express themselves clearly and be articulate when reading poems and singing songs, as well as how to develop their creativity. The students are instructed professional educator Tatyana Osetskaya, a former Director of School #1 of the City of Odessa.
