For the Feast of Pentecost, the Vicar Celebrated the Liturgy at the Miami Cathedral

June 1, 2026

On May 30–31, 2026, on the occasion of the Twelfth Great Feast of the Most Holy Trinity — Pentecost — solemn divine services were held at the Cathedral of Saint Matrona in Miami.

The Day of Pentecost, also known as the birthday of the Church of Christ, is one of the principal feasts of the liturgical year. Following tradition, the interior of the cathedral was festively adorned with fresh greenery and flowers, symbolizing the renewal of the human soul through the grace of the Holy Spirit.

The Divine Liturgy and the festal All-Night Vigil were presided over by the Vicar of the Slavic Vicariate and rector of the cathedral, Archimandrite Alexander Belya, Bishop-elect of Niсopolis, concelebrated by the cathedral clergyman, Archpriest Maksim Pliskou.

Immediately following the conclusion of the Liturgy, Vespers was celebrated. This was the first service after Pascha at which the faithful once again began to make prostrations. During Vespers, the priests read the three kneeling prayers of Saint Basil the Great (4th century).

At the conclusion of the services, Archimandrite Alexander addressed the congregation with a homily, reminding them of the significance of Pentecost for every Christian: “The Holy Spirit, who descended upon the Apostles, invisibly dwells in the Church even today, sanctifying her sacraments and strengthening the faithful. Just as the greenery adorning the temple, so our souls must be renewed by the fruits of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, and long-suffering.”
